History of Multimedia Age

1991~2000At the beginning of the 1990's, broadcasting was placed in a different environment due to the rapid development of digital technology and promulgation of the Internet. The competition between the media became fiercer as the broadcasting environment began to embrace changes such as conversion into multimedia and multichannel. Nonetheless, it was also an opportunity to expand the area of broadcasting and develop a new business model. MBC adopted to the changes and played a leading role in the broadcasting environment by taking initiatives in the area.

  • 2000 MBC Standard FM nationwide network completed
    Radio paperless system started in full-scale
    MBC News to be satellite broadcast in the Americas in real time
    Established iMBC (Internet MBC)
  • 1999 Digital terrestrial test broadcasting started
  • 1997 Internet VOD service started
    Completed the construction of Yangju Studio
    Yangju Studio Yangju Studio
  • 1996 Nationwide digital line network for TV started to operate
    Multi-sound TV broadcasting expanded to nationwide service
    Automated digital TV transmission from master control room started
  • 1995 MBC became a full member of ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union)
    Music FM started 24 hour broadcasting
    Internet homepage service began
  • 1993 TV Ombudsman started
    Succeeded in connecting space station Mir for broadcast for the first time in Korean broadcasting history
  • 1991~93 Established subsidiaries
    (MBC Production, Media Tech, Art Center, Academy, Ad Com)
