History of Color TV Age
1981~1990South Korean news media were under direct government control for many years after the assassination of Park Chung-hee on October 26, 1979 and South Korea fell under the new military regime, which merged and abolished newspaper and broadcasting organizations. However, thanks to the democratic movement in 1987, people started to redefine the functions and roles of the broadcasting companies. It was when MBC began providing color TV programs right before moving to Yeouido. Furthermore, after the successful broadcasting of the 1988 Seoul Olympics, MBC was able to achieve an unparalleled growth. Thereby, Yeouido-age can be defined by the growth-age symbolized as MBC’s great take-off.
